Quickly Reviewed #9: The Advocates Batch - Edinburgh Whisky Ltd.

Über den Whisky: Dieser Malt Blend wurde vom unabhängigen Abfüller "Edinburgh Whisky Ltd." kreiert. Die Serie "New Town Blends" soll dem Stadtteil New Town in Edinburgh Tribut zollen, welcher 1752 als größtes Bauvorhaben der Welt gebaut wurde. Der Blend besteht ausschließlich aus Speyside Malts, welche Brennerei beteiligt ist ist leider unbekannt. Die Reifung erfolgte in Sherry Fässern.

Leider hatte ich nur ein Sample zur
Verfügung. Aber das wird sich ändern!

Nase: Angenehm. Süß mit Noten von Vanille und Honig. Die Sherryfässer kommen mit einer leichten Nussigkeit hinzu. Schöne Walnuss Noten bleiben in der Nase. Erstaunlich präsent für die 43%.

Geschmack: Angenehm voll und schön cremig im Mund. Die Nuss ist extrem präsent, erinnert mich an einige Tomatin, die ich probiert habe. Wieder leichte Vanille und eine tolle Honigsüße. Zum Ende hin zarte Anklänge von Holz - Bitterkeit kommt leicht an den Gaumen. Kräuter gibt es auch noch, vielleicht sogar etwas seifig Richtung Koriander. Insgesamt dominiert aber die nussige Süße.

Finish: Mittellang, leichte holzige Bitterkeit. Trocken und würzig verbleibt der Whisky im Mund. Außerdem bleibt eine leichte Minznote, so Richtung After Eight.

Abschließende Gedanken: Manchmal hat man gar keine Erwartungen an einen Whisky und dann kommt es ganz anders! Die Rahmendaten hier sind doch maximal als "ok" zu bewerten: Blend, "nur" 43%, dazu kühl gefiltert und im wirklich unteren Preissegment. Tja, so kann man sich irren. Natürlich würde ich ihn gerne mit 46% probieren und dann wäre auch die zusätzliche Filtrierung nicht mehr nötig, aber gut, sei es drum. Geschmacklich ist es ein wirklich toller Blend, und im Preis-Leistung-Verhältnis ist es sogar eine - für mich - herausragende Flasche. Davon sollte man wirklich eine Flasche im Schrank haben. Einfach ein schöner Einstieg in einen Whiskyabend!

About the whisky: "The Advocates Batch" is a Blended Malt Whisky created by the independent bottler "Edinburgh Whisky Ltd.". It is part of the "New Town Blends" series which celebrates the New Town quarter of Edinburgh. This expression is composed exclusively from Speyside Malt whiskys with a sherr cask maturation.

Nose: A great sweet note. Vanilla and honey. And some walnut notes are in there from the sherry casks.

Taste: Again I like it. Full bodied and creamy in the mouth. Walnut notes are really dominant, reminds me of some Tomatins I've tasted before. Vanilla in the background and a pleasant honey note. The end is more herbal and dry, some oaky notes as well.

Finish: Medium long. Oaky and dry notes are more dominant in the finsih. And there is some mint as well, think of After Eight - dark chocolate and mint.

Overall/Final Thoughts: Sometimes you don't expect much from a whisky and get so much more. This blend is one of these rare cases. After all it is a chillfiltered blend with "only" 43% and it is in the very cheapest segment of available whisky (that I want to drink ...). But with that said, it is just a great blend. Maybe this is one of the "better keep a bottle at home all the time" whiskys, as it just is a wonderful entry to an evening of whisky.
