Quickly Reviewed #6: Wolfburn - First General Release

About the whisky: Wolfburn distillery started production in late January 2013. After 3 years of maturation this "First General Release" was released in early 2016 (Somewhere around late March). It was matured in ex-bourbon hogsheads and quarter casks, which were used at Laphroaig distillery. This release is bottled at 46% ABV, without artificial colour and chill-filtration.

Nose: A pretty strong herbal note, with strong mint. Some citrus as well and a restrained sweet note. There is some smoke in the background as well.

Taste: You definitely get to taste the quarter casks from Laphroaig! Strong smoke and peat. But sweeter notes as well (Ex-Bourbon?) and again some citrus fruits.

Finish: Medium. Smoky and spicy. Licorice with bitterness.

Overall/Final Thoughts: Well, this sure is a young w
hisky. It lacks in complexity, but what do you expect after 3 years? The smoke is a bit to dominant in the taste and finish to my liking, but I have to admit that I still like this whisky. This is a decent first release and I'm looking forward to taste Wolfburn again!
