Quickly Reviewed #1: Jameson - Caskmates

Today I thought about a new series. Writing extensive reviews takes some time. I still want to publish them on a weekly basis, but that leaves a gap for the rest of the week. "Quickly Reviewed" will take this place. In this format I want to give you just - well you guessed it - a quick review about a whisky. Maybe I only had one dram to take notes or I just want to write a small article about it and move on. Please don't get me wrong: this isn't the "bad dram collection". Great quality can be found in the smallest of drams!

Jameson Caskmates - 40%

About the whisky: Jameson Caskmates is an Irish Blended Whiskey. As far as I know it is your usual Jameson blend with a twist: the whiskey is matured in ex-Jameson-ex-stout casks. Meaning: Jameson sells part of their casks to the stout brewery Franciscan Wells. After the use at the brewery, the casks are send back to Jameson. So, this expression matures in original Jameson casks that once held stout beer.

Nose: Barley, malty, mild. Nothing too complicated. Mild irish whisky with a drop of beer.

Taste: Well, let's put it like this: not my cup of tea (or beer, or whisky). The taste seems artificial to me. It's your typical Jameson taste (mild, nothing spectacular, some light fruits) combined with the taste of stout beer. But the two styles aren't well connected. There is some whiskey taste that is follow by the malty-bitterness of the stoutcasks.

Finish: Short, mild, some bitterness.

Heute startet eine neue Serie in meinem Blog. Lange Bewertungen zu schreiben erfordert ganz schön viel Zeit. Ich verkoste den Whisky mehrfach, nehme mir Zeit dabei und sammle meine Eindrücke. Dazu sollen noch halbwegs ansprechende Bilder den Weg ins Internet finden, die Präsentation soll ja auch stimmen. Wie gesagt: Das dauert immer. Natürlich will ich damit nicht sagen, dass ich das Projekt schon in der 2. Woche verlangsame. Mein Ziel ist es immer noch jedes Wochenende eine ausführliche Rezension zu schreiben. Aber die Woche hat ja 6 Tage mehr und an denen ist hier dann Flaute. Daher startet heute "Quickly Reviewed" (zu deutsch ungefähr: "schnell mal bewertet")! Hier möchte ich euch kurze Eindrücke schildern. Vielleicht hatte ich nur einen Dram zur Verfügung, z.B. abends in einer Bar oder bei Freunden und will dennoch etwas zu dem Whisky schreiben. Mit Quickly Reviewed habe ich den dafür passenden Ort geschaffen. Aber bitte nicht falsch verstehen: Das hier ist nicht die "Resterampe" an Whisky. Großartige Qualität kann man schließlich auch im kleinsten Dram erkennen!

Über den Whisky: Jameson ist wahrscheinlich vielen ein Begriff. Einer der bekanntesten Irish Blended Whiskeys. Dieser hier ist, soweit ich weiß, der typische Jameson Blend mit einer kleinen Überraschung: die Reifung erfolgt in ex-Jameson-ex-Stout Fässern. Zur Erklärung: Jameson schickt (verkauft) einen Teil seiner gebrauchten Fässer an die Franciscan Wells Brauerei. Nachdem Fransiscan Wells sein Bier in den Fässern gelagert hat, gehen diese zurück an Jameson. Jameson füllt daraufhin wieder Whiskey rein. Tada! Das Resultat habe ich probiert.

Nase: Hopfen, leichte Malzigkeit, Nicht zu kompliziert. Ein irisher Blend mit einem Tropfen Bier.

Geschmack: Einfach gesagt: Gefällt mir nicht. Genauer gesagt: Dieser Blend erscheint mir zu künstlich. Man bekommt den typischen Jameson Geschmack (leicht fruchtig, mild, nicht überfordernd) und dazu gesellt sich ein Stout Bier. Die Kombination könnte funktionieren, leider verbinden sich die Geschmacksnoten nicht. Erst Whiskey dann etwas Bier.

Finish: Kurz, mild, etwas bitter.

Destille: Jameson

Tut mir Leid Jameson, aber das hier sind keine "Fassfreunde". Eher entfernte Verwandte, die sich zu Weihnachten eine Karte schicken.
